Thread: Gone Long

I am "Gone Long". Only because I have been gone so long -from the Alabama Gulf Coast...from the FISH in the water on the Alabama Gulf Coast...and primarily from the fine friends I have made on the Alabama Gulf Coast since 2001 aka pre-Ivan.

As one who has lived my entire 54 years in the opposite corner of the state - and never visiting our very own coast until my late 30s, it would seem unlikely that I would (or could) make so many genuine friends.

I must throw a huge "plug" to the fishing forum(s) - no pun intended - for facilitating that long distance communication/friendship/kinship during those early years. I even forget the proper title for the "Mother" as far as my perspective. Maybe GCO...??

Numerous late hours. You know - the ones you spend even though they are going to hurt you shortly when you must get up and go to work. LOL

Names on the board that you would love to put a face with and exchange a firm grip handshake. Drink a cup of scalding hot coffee. (MY preference) Maybe even wet a dry hook.

I was very privileged to first meet "Chert" and "Pier#r" early on. Their help in my transition from "fish" to "FISH WITH REAL TEETH" is and will always be priceless.

The wakeup call for me was Ivan. In hindsight, I guess I overreacted to the news hype and such. You folks have been riding these things out forever. But I live where tornadoes have, on occasion, removed everything but the bare ground and I guess overreacting was easy.

I remember watching and waiting for members to pop up and post their status and that of others. I guess that sounds strange...

I made a commitment, if you will, shortly after Ivan, to do the handshake thing with as many as I possibly could. Again, another plug to the forums. In the following 2-3 years, I had the privilege of meeting a large number of the folks - some of which are no longer around.

I realize this is getting long - and probably boring, but I have been "Gone Long"...for all of two, three days now?
I became "Gone Long" for the simple reason - I could not remember my password to login under my old user name. I also couldn't access my old email account to ask for a new password reset.

Anyway, I was able to retrieve my old password.

Therefore, I was Gone Long.

But it feels so much better, letting out a great big seven year holding-my-breath, as the Chicken Chaser!

Dave - you all might want to watch out for something tropical just after Thanksgiving. I know it's late, but it's been in a holding pattern.
