It ramp at Ft Morgan open???
Should be, last think I knew, only the pier is closed.
Why'd the close the pier out there? I was there last summer and it was ok.
Structural issues, lots of rotted wood and other problems.
Thanks for the info. Any plans on repairing it or is it going to be another seawall at the pass? I guess I have to say I'm a tourist although I never really feel like one and my wife gets a little salty because I don't like tourist activities. Being in that group that are visitors to the Gulf Shores area it seems odd from my perspective they wouldn't fix these things. It seems to get more crowded every year and the tax on rooms and condos would generate quite a bit of funds. Either way I'm sure I'll be back at least 2 more times this year. Maybe that's why....A voice from above says don't build it and they still will come!
There are people (as in multiple agencies) working on trying to get the money from various sources, but the owner of the Fort Morgan Historic Site (Alabama Historical Commission) barely has funds to keep the lights on, let alone rebuild a fishing pier. But it is being worked on from various angles.
Their final excuse was a guy falling off the pier & drowning, took them days to find his body under the pier.
So to protect themselves from lawsuits due to having no rails, lifeguards or heroic dolphins, and to protect Darwin Award Candidates from themselves, they finally closed the pier.
Another prime easy access/ handicap accessible fishing spot gone, good spot for Flounder, Mullet and many other species... No longer.
i wonder if governmental places like this could do a gofundme thing or kickstarter? have community involvement in getting it fixed?
