    Finally

My wife and I finally made it down and headed out to the pier while waiting on our room. She went for Sightseeing and of course I was checking out the bite. One person had a couple of sheepHeads and another had a flounder. I am guessing there are still no king sightings.

In any case, I might try my luck this evening and I will definitely be there dark and early in the morning. Should I have a float for kings, or just let the bait free swim wherever it lands?

Its a personal choice. Most guys don't use a float. I normally do with live bait. Helps me keep track of my bait. If snobbling a dead bait, no float.

As far as a float goes, for me it depends on how hot the action is and how much attention I feel like paying to my bait. I do not use a float if there is a good bite and chances of hooking up are good, but sometimes if it is slow a float will let you relax a bit especially if current will move the bait away from other lines near the pier.

In the summer doldrums or when the bite is really slow I will use a balloon and a hardtail and let the wind get my bait away from what little traffic is near the pier so that I can really take it easy. You still have to pay attention because of the other lines in the water, but not like freelining.

Lines unattended are not appreciated, especially near the pier when there are a fair number of people fishing.

People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.
