    Double Red Flags

    Rant on:
For the visitors to the area this week, the double red flags are not flying because of sharks (no matter what people are posting on facebook). They are flying due to the dangerous water conditions due to the tropical storm churning in the gulf. STAY OUT OF THE WATER when you see double red flags. Ft Morgan Fire Rescue has already posted that they will not be rescuing stranded swimmers

Yes, sharks have been coming close to shore...same as they have been doing since the days of the Megaladon. It is an annual occurrence for the sharks to chase prey into the shallow waters in hopes of getting an easy meal. No, humans aren't that easy meal. I can guarantee you that if you've ever stepped foot in the gulf, there has been a shark or two within 50 yards of you. If you see them coming close to the beach, calmly get out of the water, and observe how mother nature and the food chain works.

I have seen so many people commenting on Facebook that the flags are flying due to the sharks and that they were stalking and trying to bite people wading in the water.
Double Red Flags=Waters closed to public use--STAY OUT OF THE WATER
Red Flags=dangerous water conditions (rough surf, rip tides, current, etc)
Yellow Flags=Medium hazards (light surf, currents, etc)
Green Flags=Little to no hazards (calm waters)
Purple Flags=Dangerous Marine Life (sharks, jellyfish, etc)

    Rant off

Please heed this warning and stay out of the water. I remember few years back a mom let her son and a friend skim board out Fort Morgan road. One of the kids let their board get away from them and they went in after it. The mother was able to grab both boys but lost her grip on her son and he was pulled under. I don't think they ever found his body. I can't imagine how horrible that mother must feel still to this day.

They must not see the water. It's pretty churned up. Not the worst I've seen, but inexperienced people definitely need to stay out of the water.

I posted a couple of days ago, during the tropical storm. It'll be interesting to note how long it takes for things to settle down and for the fish (besides catfish and sharks) to start biting again.

From WKRG Debbie Williams fb page:
Water rescues continue on Ft. Morgan. Double Red flags continue to fly on all Baldwin County Beaches.6 beachgoers ran into the water to help a swimmer in distress. Three of them barely made it out of the water alive. One was airlifted, one taken by ambulance and the third refused treatment. No word on the original swimmer.
UPDATE: Investigators a 57 year old man on vacation with his family from Dallas, Texas drowned this afternoon in the gulf waters off Ft. Morgan peninsula.
Initial reports indicate he was trying to help some children who seemed to be in distress when he was overcome by the dangerous surf.
No names have been released at this time.
    -----------------------

Confirmed drowning along Ft Morgan. Bernard Court at the end of Prince de Leon.

SEE ABOVE POSTS RELATING TO DOUBLE RED FLAGS!

What adult could stand on the beach watching kids in distress in the water and NOT try to help?
It's a shame his good intentions got him killed because of the foolishness of others!
