DI Ferry
Arriving early in a few weeks. Thinking about the the ferry on a Saturday morning. Plan on being on the island early. Any tips? How soon do I need to be in line for the first trip to FM? Purchase tickets there or online? Old Mobile native but been gone for awhile. Any tips will help.

Schedule - Mobile Bay Ferry
FAQ says be there 30 to 60 minutes prior to scheduled time.
1st load on DI is @ 8am so be there as close to 7 as you can to assure a place.
Website doesn't mention online tickets??
Hope this helps!

Watch the weather, the other day when it was rough as hell, they cancelled service.

I fish Ft.Morgan quite a bit in the Fall, and I use the Ferry to get there.
To catch the first Ferry I usually get there by 7am or even a little earlier.
Be prepared for lines on later ferries, the wait can be several hours if any event is happening, and on the DI side if you get in line you can't get out once within the fences.
Service is NOT guaranteed.
Be prepared to drive back from Ft.Morgan if the ferries cancel for the day due to weather (wind/waves), extremely low tides or breakdowns.
Its a long drive (longer walk/taxi) back to Mobile/DI if you get stuck on the Ft. Morgan side.
In order to be relatively sure of getting back on the ferry try to catch the second to the last, in case there is a line.
Another note, if you park in the Fort, be double damned sure to be out of the lot before they close it.
They will lock you in for the night.
Can I make a suggestion?
Drive over and get to Ft. Morgan before the sun comes up and then take the ferry back.
This time of the year the morning surf bite can be fantastic and you'll miss most of it waiting for the first ferry.Ragnar Benson:

Thanks all. We're spending the week in GSOB so not worried about the return trip. Now to figure out how early to leave Hammond La to be in line for the 8am DI ferry...ouch.
planning on spending a couple of mornings on the pier, day or two kayak fishing the gulf and booked one offshore trip.Better tighten that drag boy! He's gonna spool ya!
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
