Just left the hospital from having kidney stone surgery part 1 of 2. Started hurting last night at around 9:30 and finally went to emergency room. Had tests ND found a 5 mm stone blocking a kidney. The finally gave me pa in med at 3:47 am and didn't have surgery until 6:30 this evening. No more tea for me.
BTDT - Berlin, 1989. Fortunately passed it at some point during the night. No paid meds. Thought I was dying. Laid in the hotel bed all night rolling back and forth in the fetal position, crying my ass off. Miserable is an understatement. I didn't know pain like that existed. I'd say about 14 on a scale of 1-10.
Yep that's about what it felt like. Now I'm peeing fire even with pain meds.

Gave 'birth' to three 3.5mm in a 4 year period.
Dr said lay of hot tea in the morning and do NOT get dehydrated.

Suffering the "male jaws of death" is no joke. After I went through this back in my 30s, I converted a good 80% of my drinking habits to water only and so far no more (large) stones.
I still get a little surprise every now and again because I can't seem to completely let go of unsweetened tea and black coffee.
Drink more beer never had one myself.
The procedure I had pushed the stone back up to my kidney and cleared the blockage. I started thinking and this was my first hospital visit as a patient in 40 years. He installed a stint to keep it in place until I get back from GS next week and then I have another procedure to remove it at a different hospital. I love my sweet tea but a nurse told me 80% of their kidney stone patients drink tea all day every day so its got to go.
Sweet tea and Mountain Dew. A good number of patients we see with large stones are heavy Dew drinkers.
Until yesterday I drank sweet tea nearly every meal and sipped on it all day in between meals. From now on I'm going to try to just drink water with most every meal except milk for breakfast every once in a while. Once I get his one out I don't want to incubate another one.
