Me and the Fat Boy headed west for a little high altitude riding.
lucky guy....love that state, but only been there in the winter for some skiing & fishing
Aspen/Snowmass area....and copper mountain at a friends brothers ....the mountains are so beautiful in the winter....I can only imagine in the summer months
this past months nothing but rain, friend just got back and said it rained everyday...and his parents cut there time short too from it
Temps above 13K' about 55/78. Love the mountains in late summer early fall
Rode the Fat Boy to the summit of Mt Evans, CO this morning. One hairy mother of a ride. 14,264' elevation. Thinking about Pike's Peak Friday.
Great pics, thanks bro!
Be careful on those mountain roads, coming down the steep grades can get a little squirrely
It was a little squirrely both ways. I won't go so far as to say I was ever scared, but there were a couple of times I was damned concerned. 1000' dropoff 6' from my right foot with no guard rail and a car straddling the line. I told him he was #1.
ETA-- the Fat Boy was a champ. Chewed those switchbacks up and spit 'em out. Never a twitch on the entire road. Guess it's that low ride cruiser attitude
Couple more
Made that same run on my big Honda VTX several years ago. It was incredibly beautiful but, as you said, there are some moments when you are aware of your mortality.
Tried to ride a bit this weekend locally... and the tourists around Robertsdale/ Foley/ Gulf Shores earned the middle finger more than once. I, too, indicated with hand gestures that they were # 1.
Too funny.
I hope to soon have the incentive to visit Colorado about once a year. One of my granddaughters has been accepted as a candidate to the Air Force Academy. She is working thru the acceptance program now and should know by January.
Rode up to the top of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Continental Divide today. Great trip up. Ride from hell going down. Heavy rain, lightning, hail, high wind for the whole 26 mile ride down
Looks like Sam must have been there too!
Ha. Would have been easier to deal with. That's sleet that piled up when I had to bail during the worst of it. A real beatch
Looks like a lot of fun.
Sucks being so exposed sometimes... Hail, ouch!
Worst part was that I couldn't see. Close my face shield and fog up. Open it and get pelted with rain and hail. 25 miles on a 4-6% downhill grade with lots of curves at 15-20 mph
I woulda grayed out....
I hear ya. It came down to two choices: basically curl up and quit or per those infamous Harley words: Screw it, lets ride. Dang sure made a memory.
:rain :horse :pirate
Made my mind up that I'm gonna do Pike's Peak tomorrow to complete the hat trick. That'll make over 40,000 feet of climbing in 5 days
You gonna need a brake job after this trip.
Got to Pike's Peak and found it closed today for a friggin' movie shoot.
Yea, Fin, straight to the shop when I get back.
Go to Garden of the Gods Park near Colorado Springs, awesome photo ops and won't wear out your brakes.
It's open tomorrow. Gonna try again. Want to have all three peaks in one season.
Be safe, post pics!
