    Braid color and # test

I got the Off Shore Angler Saltwater Extreme rod finally. Have a new reel also, I have never used braided line before. The rod is rated for 12 to 20 # mono, What color and # test should I put onto the reel ?

The reel size and target species would help the experts answer the question.

Very True.. The reel is a 5000 series Soulyang will be casting mostly spoons and bubble rigs for Spanish. Some jigs and live baits for trout and pompano.Reel capacity is 250 yards of 15 # mono.

The reel is a 5000 series Soulyang

    May I ask why?

I'd go with 12# and hope the reel didn't explode.

I think I would use a 4000 or 3500 size reel with 10# white, light blue or hivis yellow braid. I don't think the colors that are more visible to us humans, deter the fish given a long enough leader is used. If you hook into a big fish, you just have to play him longer, increasing the fun, and hope it doesn't get sharked.

Thanks for the help folks. I did downsize the reel to a 4000, but I am still unsure on braided line at all. Will probably go back with the old mono. Thanks again. Dennis

    Good choice Dennis!
What model of Sougayilang reel do you have?
They have a bunch that look as similar as mid-sized sedans...

The Soulyang reel is back in the box. A Penn Fierce III will be on the rod when it gets here LOL
