Bow hunting stories
So it's been 2 weeks since i've been in the woods with a bow... I figured hey i should just slip out of work early and go today, so i did.
I left work later than expected 330ish, got stuck in traffic for 45 minutes, so no time to run by and grab hunting clothes(my bow stays in the cab).
Finally arrive at my camp, slip down the woods line to my favorite stand in khakis and a red polo and olive colored office jacket, no gloves, no face mask etc. The time is now about 4:50. getting darker by the second.
Its now that time of evening where you stand up and get ready(you bow hunters know that magical time). Well I DIDNT STAND UP, and NOTHING came out..at first, but then HE walked out, 35 yards broadside. I pinched one off in my drawers if you know what i mean.
I reached over and grabbed the ole hoyt crx 32 and hooked my release on.. Before i could get my bow drawn HE turned and walked straight towards me then turned to the left a bit.
RE-WIND 6 months ago to plot prep and lane prep this summer. I've hunted this plot for 10 years and never had a reason to clear certain lanes as deer NEVER walked by them. Well my plots are designed after years of working on a deer ranch. I make a semi 'wagon wheel' with the spokes being the lanes and the hub being the main plot with the stand at the base of the hub. this style seems to give deer a false sense of cover while moving from lane to lane while checking out the plot and surrounding area.
To the direct left of my stand is a cluster of 14ft oak sapplings that I was just to lazy to keep trimmed back because again a deer NEVER walked that way.
back to present day
That 135" 9 point that is now 6.5 to 7.5 years old, with huge tines and bases, that i've been hunting hard for 3 years and have had on camera on and off since birth is now 15 yards on the other side of this cluster of sapplings!
He stayed and ate oats and drank rye till the day went to night and i had to climb down.
Moral of the dang story: got a twig, stick, tree, forrest, brush, briars, exotic and rare rain forrest or anything else in your way cut it down and round up it so it wont come back.
I will post a pic of him later from his 2.5 year rack. he's on a down hill slide now with his rack but he is still impressive.
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
