Must not be anything in that little radar dome, or it was a bad case of
'asleep at the wheel'. Embarrassing and expensive.
Recreational beverage-involved boating won't go smoothly forever.
At least it did not sink.
"My radar is so good it showed a flock of gulls ahead. It just did not show what they were sitting on."
Not a local boat, looks like a Mississippi sticker
Nasty.
Back in '97 or '98, someone put a brand new sportfisherman, about a 40'er, on the weir at Perdido Pass. Two days of pounding waves later there was nothing left but scraps, fuel tanks and diesel engine.
Maybe 12 or so years back, a large boat came ashore east of Perdido Pass bridge. Watched as some burly young men dug around under it and outfitted the boat with some type of large bra. Two really big tugs showed up that afternoon; cables were fastened to the bra and then some real work began. As we loaded up at late afternoon to leave, they had managed to drag it maybe 15', still way short of the high tide line. It appeared the boats captain was headed straight toward the lights of the bridge at night, with speed, from an angle. The operation to remove the boat had the look of something that would be very costly. We thought the whole show was very entertaining.
