    Big Muddy

I crossed the Tombigbee at Jackson yesterday and it was quite a sight. The water was all out in the woods and well up the tree trunks. Turkeys that were lucky enough to find a shallow spot were wading around catching crawfish, frogs were teaching the deer the breast stroke, possums were growing scales and the armadillos were rolling like dolphins. Squirrels are growing webs between they little toes.

There was an ominous rumbling sound that I couldn't see the source of, but I figured that it must be that the swift current had overcome all the turtles and I was hearing them bouncing off each other as they were swept downstream.

And all this is coming down to stay with us on the coast for a while. Children will be making mud forts instead of sand castles on the beach. Oh, well, Mama always told me not to fret over something I couldn't do anything about, so I'll either put another log on the fire or go to one of my favorite deer stands. It's hard to explain to the Earth people, but there is a measure of enjoyment and contentment to be found in being heavily armed and sitting in a tree.

The image is here (click, then click again to download), but I don't know how he gets the zoom view to print.

EDIT2: If you go to the regional view, pause animation, and click on the paused animation you get a still view you can zoom on.

People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

At least it looks like the currents are pushing the mud west. I think I'll go take a walk and a look.

For one thing it keeps the neighbors a good way off.
