Best Week to Fish
Let's say you lived at least an eight hour drive away from GS, out of the entire year what is the best suggested week to be at GS for pier/surf fishing?

As for pier fishing, some of my best Spanish Mackerel fishing has been on the 2nd and 3rd week of October.

The dynamics around when certain species are biting are so complex that even when conditions are perfect you may not catch much. There's moon phase/tides, weather events, current, wind direction/velocity, water clarity and salinity, and the randomness of fish school locations and movement. All you can do is to pick a time when the fish you want to catch is "in", typically, visit archived posts to see when they WERE biting in previous years and put those odds in your favor. If you fish the Gulf Shores area regularly, keep a personal diary with pictures. It makes a good scrapbook that you can show off and it also helps preserve memories of some fantastic fishing ventures.

No matter which week you choose, the best week will be the week prior to when you are here and you will get to hear endlessly repetitious stories about how wonderful it was.

There are no guarantees in life but if the weather doesn't muddy up the water I would pick a mid April week with the most tidal movement. By then you will still have sheepshead around, big pompano in the surf, kings and Spanish, a few slot reds, flounder, whiting and specks. I have made 4 trips down this year and the water has been muddy more than half the time I was there. The good news is that occupancy in April and early May is usually low, rates are very reasonable and last minute availability is excellent so you can wait out rainy or cool weather.
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
