    Bad monkeys

I had no luck with the turkeys again today. Heard one gobbling, but before I got halfway to him, two hens flew past me at treetop level, headed for him. He was drawing the ladies to himself just like I used to, back in the day. Yeah, right. In my dreams

It's a good thing I saw several turkeys during the rain Sunday or I'd be thinking that some of those badass swamp monkeys from over at Whiskey Branch had invaded from the Bassetts Creek bottomland. I've heard tell that those things will move in at night and find the turkeys on the roost and climb up and catch the hens which they will violate repeatedly and viciously before eating them, leaving behind only beaks, bones, feet and feathers. Those things got out of their enclosures when Hurricane Ivan came through and it's a good thing they can't take cold weather or they'd overrun the place---worse than hogs. If I ever get another chance to kill one, I'm going to have a full body mount done. Bloodthirsty little bastids.

Maybe the coming sunshine will make the turkeys gobble.

You need to go back to camp, eat a slab of bacon, eggs and biscuits. Spend some quality time with those cheerleaders. Take a good nap. Then go back after him at 1:00pm. He will be lonely and love sick again by then and his gal pals won't come to him. Do a little SOFT calling until he gobbles and then stop calling and wait him out. This is easier said than done but its very effective. If he hangs up do a little bit of leaf scratching. If you can get him to see a gobbler decoy it's game over.

As for the monkeys the zoo actually does have a demon of a spider monkey that they have to keep in a special cage away from the exhibits because he is too mean. He got a hold of a knife once and apparently no one could get it away from him because he would try to cut anyone who came near him (true story)
