"Alabama Squirrel Hawkin"
So for the last 3-4 years I've been slowly leaning towards becoming a falconer. Well last fall, I jumped in head first. I got my sponsor, and lots of reading material. Come to find out, Alabama has a "squirrel hawking" event up near Camden. I'm hoping to go. I was wondering if there are any like minded individuals on here that like hunt with raptors?

There was a guy out here at 5 Rivers who used to bring his hawk to work every now & then. I will find out if he still works over at the other building.

That is so cool, Mr. Cleland. The Sport of Kings. What are the birds that you fly?

I've always wanted to do that, but it is time consuming and pricey from what I've heard.

As far as I know, Osprey's can fish from the pier and don't even have to have a license.
I don't think they pay much attention to size limits either.

The bird on the left is a redtail, and the one on the right is a male Harris hawk. I am still a new apprentice, so I won't get a bird of my own until September. It's pretty awesome watching these birds work in the field. They know how to use humans for an easy meal and decide we are worth sticking around for.

Snake :
While the MEWS(hawk house) can cost as much as you want to spend, the rest is relatively inexpensive. My entire project(mews included) costs less than a van stall on a good rod.
It is most definitely time consuming, as a matter of fact, it is a lifestyle change. One that requires unwavering dedication to the bird.Last edited by Mr. Cleland; 02-23-2017 at 11:54 AM.
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
