Hate to hear that DD . Your intelligent ,thought provoking , straight off the cuff, no holds barred banter will be missed if your move does come to pass . If the move falls through .Well, just disregard all the BS I just posted . HA ! Wish you all the best either way .
If you don't know how to fly fish, send me you address, I will come down and teach you how. We have a guy, from Colorado Springs, that comes up to fish our streams. I guess that is alright, I go out West to fish their streams. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, even if you do not go!!!
Good fishing in Colorado. wish you the best bundle up weather is a little cooler up there
Yup. 24 now. Last week it was -8. Now 30 is shirt sleeve weather.
He just wants to get closer to Sturgis.
Guess we'll have to add a Colorado Fishing Report board so you will stay in touch. You will have to Fedex us the bread pudding for the Annual Pier Picnic.
I spent a little time in Colorado Springs a few years back, beautiful country out there!
Good luck my friend.
400 miles -- easy day's ride. Already scoping out trout streams.
what part?? I love my visits there in the winter months(Snowmass / Aspen area) always fished a few days when it was over cast and the skiing wasn't as good like the sunny days.....friends brother lives in Frisco that had good fishing....we always fished the frying pan river in Basalt to the Ruedi Reservoir....starting at the Reservoir working our way back
seen a couple fly fishing shows on that river and fishing exactly where we always fished big trout in the pool just below the dam and just above the bridge in the narrow pool
Gonna miss ya if you go Greg. Was always a pleasure to sit and talk with you at the pier. Hope the best for you!
We're all going to miss you, but it's not like you're taking a step backward. It was an awfully long time ago that I was there, but I remember it favorably and I doubt if they've moved those mountains around very much since then. Grand country.
Likewise
Littleton - a suburb in south Denver.
Good luck! i have to pass through Denver area on my way to the Ice every year for some training!
Denver is a big city with a much smaller feel.
shotgun willies....that was a stop a friend just had to make....after 20hours in the car driving I wasn't in any mood for it and much didn't care either .....it was good scenery but I was a zombie from driving by that time ....then 4 hours in the mountains it was a wonder we made it some trips to the condo for skiing
wish you good fortune out there if it works out you stay
Yup. Got that monkey off my back.
Now that's a classic photo!!!
Gone from 95 to about 99.8%. Waiting on their response to the wife's salary counter offer. Pretty sure they'll find middle ground Monday morning.
Good luck. Time to buy some flyrods. Good bird hunting out there too, especially the eastern part of the state.
Thanks. Deal is done. She starts 2/12. Already completely geared up. Just need a littlr instruction. Here is a pic I took last week.
About 20 yds -- that snow is about 4' deep for perspective.
Excellent, congratulations.
BTW, don't let the purist intimidate you, using an UL spinning rod for trout is not sacrilege! (but might be illegal in some streams, as is live/natural bait on lure/fly only streams.)
A single salmon egg on a good egg hook, no weight, bounced through the riffles and around rocks is a good way to catch rainbows.
But get good UL gear, drags on reels that small can be notorisously sticky, and given that you are using 4-6# line, a sticky drag is not a good thing.
And those short little rods they put the combos on tend to suck, get a good 6' UL with lots of guides.
Going whole hog. Always wanted to fly fish.. Have a 9' -- 5 weight from Orvis with spooled reel. Got a guided trip for Christmas, so I'll go from there.
Awesome !!!!!!!
Don't forget about ice fishing too!
Places to Ice Fish in Colorado | Colorado.com
if it is cold enough on the lake for ice, I will be on the mountain on my snowboard
Best of luck to you DD, from a guy that has fished trout for 65 + years every way possible, except dynamite, FinChaser, CarlF knows what he is talking about. The 9' Orvis #5 is as good as you can get, it will do you well. Don't worry about the reel, it's only a place to store the line when your not fishing. You will catch more trout with a spinning rod that a fly rod but it is more enjoyable to catch them on a fly rod because in most cases you will see it happen. Keep in mind that trout pick up 90% of their food from the bottom of the stream. In other words use nymphs or bead heads, and dry flies only when they are feeding off the top. If you don't see them rising, get down where you belong.
the Blue is good fishing Half way to Snowmass (frying pan river) roaring fork river also Glenwood springs for the Hot pool is a relaxing time too(right at 70 and 82) ....Blue river at Silverthorne that dumps into Dillon Reservoir ....I am sure fish in the Colorado river, but never fished it .....I do miss going out there these past so many years in the winter ....but other things need to take priority, like our fall trips south
Roger on Dillon. Plan on going up into the National Forest above Keystone to fish the Snake and adjacent ponds/small lakes that drain into the upper end of Dillon Reservoir.
The road up from Keystone is where I took the moose pic. Were actually 2 bulls right beside the road just past Montezuma going up to the Nat Forest.
seen plenty of elk and mule deer but never any moose....very cool !!!thanks for sharing
I always said in the past, if I ever was forced a divorce....Colorado would be my destination ....I loved my time out there in the winter skiing....never been there in the summer but hear it is even better then
Cooper Mountain has some great skiing too. never cared for the lay out of Keystone or Breckenridge when we stay in Frisco at a friends brothers going in and out of the Mountains to Snowmass plus his wife always had free lift tickets for Cooper or Keystone when she had a shop there
Greg, you not going out there to become a weed farmer are ya?
Flyguy, I have never used dynamite for bait; and that hand grenade incident was over forty years ago!

Sorry, I'm easily confused, my old buddy had the dynamite, you used the hand grenade, if I recall neither one worked on the fish, my buddy blew up his dog
