    300 blackout question

So I'm in the market for a new weapon. I've been looking at local shops and online and one gun keeps getting my attention, the 300 blackout. I've been reading a lot of reviews and watched every YouTube video on them but just can't convince myself to dish out the money. I'm thinking about replacing an AK-47 with the 300 blackout. So my question is, has anyone shot one or own one that can give me a little feedback on it? I'd only be looking to shoot 200 yards or less, this wont be a long ranger weapon. Any feedback or info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

IMHO you are better off with a 5.56/.223 in an AR platform for short-medium ranges as a personal defense weapon. .300 blackout ammunition is more expensive and not as readily available as .223/5.56. The .300 does shoot a heavier bullet which would be an advantage for hunting deer sized game.

Chillin has a good point but it all depends on what you want to do with it. i have two 5.56 ARs and when i get back to the states i will be building a .300 blackout for hunting as well as a .277 wolverine for long range hunting... both of those on AR platforms. as for ammo i have a friend in the ammo re-manufacturing business that carries 300 blackout and .277 wolverine (and many other calibers) Ammo Store also he is very knowledgeable about the blackout round if you wanna ask him some questions...

A friend owned one (traded it for a .308 already) His complaints expensive ammo, hard to find ammo, and if you hunt with it and walk a good distance in it is very heavy.

The 300 blackout is amazing if you are going to put a can on it and shoot subsonic ammo but if your wanting reliability stick with an AK it will run rain or shine and will eat any ammo you can feed it.

The main reason I was wanting one was for personal defense. I have a complete AR lower and don't really want another 5.56/.223 and that's why I was thinking about the 300 blk out. Just to have another option. Was also thinking about building it as a pistol with a 9in or 10in barrel. Just can't bring myself to do it right now. I've heard just as many bad reviews as good. Thanks for all the input

I would check the regulations before putting a pistol upper on a lower with a standard stock. This would technically make it a SBR (short barrel rifle) requiring a BATF background check and tax stamp.
