    PVC Beach Cart Design

    20160705_172938.jpg

Here is my beach cart project. This is built from all PVC pipe and fittings, except for the wheels. Built to fit my 55q cooler and live bait bucket plus 8 rods. Want new wheels, but can't afford wheelez.

Hope it works as well in sand as grass...

Nice cart. It looks rigid and stout

I won't, set your hopes to being able to pull it across sand without too much difficulty. You can swing the odds of this happening by loading the cart with as little weight as possible. Things like using barely enough ice in your cooler, emptying some of of the live bait's water till you reach the water, carrying what gear you can and not filling every rod holder just because it's there, all lighten the load.

Those look like plastic wheels from what I can see. That's going to be tough in the sand with any amount of weight. I'd extend the axle and use two harbor freight inflatable tires on each side, if Wheleez aren't in the budget.

I've got much better inflatable tires than that on my current cart and I am still about to build a custom backpack to get away from the hell that pushing a cart seems to be.

I don't mean to discourage you, but I've found that dealing with a cart can have a detrimental impact on my fishing opportunities and/or motivation, depending on the situation. I have a tendency to find myself "tethered" to the cart due to it's awkwardness, rather than getting up and moving to where the fish actually are.

Yeah I've had the same cart for 3 years (gander Mt beach cart jr.) It is tough to pull, but I don't mind the workout. I mainly use the cart when I am planning to park it in one spot for a while.

I used the same tires I had from the old cart. It's a bit heavier, but better weight distribution. It won't be easy, but I think it'll work.

I'll upgrade wheels some day... the harbor freight ones wouldn't be enough of an upgrade to justify the $30 up here. Hoping to catch cheap wheelez deal some day.

I don't know if ice fishing is done in your area, but I would borrow somebodys little boat slead before using your cart on dry sand. The slead is Pier#r approved so it has to be the best deal for the dollar.

Fortunately, it's not cold enough here to ice over the lakes. I hate the cold, but I like the idea.

After a week of abuse, the cart held up very well. The soft sand was obviously work, but nothing I wasn't expecting and no worse than my previous store bought option.

I loaded it down daily with a 55q cooler with ice, bait bucket, tackle box, rod holders, 6 rod and reel. Some days I was even fortunate enough to add fish to the equation.

I am confident enough now to recommend it. The instructions and plan came from formufit.com, where you can buy the materials.

Before trying this, I have several changes I can suggest to enhance the functionality...feel free to PM me for details.
