New (for me) twist on bubble rigs
Wife and I mostly catch and release our fun fish. Blues, Spanish, Ladyfish, and so on. Well she complained the trebles I was using on my homemade McDonalds straw rigs were tearing up the innards of too many of the fish. So we tested some 4/0 and 5/0 circle sea hooks on the bubble rigs last week while we were on the pier. They worked great and not one fish that took the hooks was torn up. The hooks settled as advertised in the corners of mouths and the wife was happy with the results. The hooks tended to travel through the water hook upward, which I found interesting and no less action or distance was observed. Building and bagging new rigs at the house, so thought I would share in the DIY section.

My Bubble rig setup is a Clark Spoon under a bubble. Worked great last year, but wasnt as effective this year for some reason.

Re: New (for me) twist on bubble rigs
Well it shouldn't work at all. Until I used them there wouldn't have been anyone on the planet that could convince me a plastic ball on a string dragging a short plastic McDonalds straw on more string could catch fish. Well I am a believer. Our first week at the pier we caught at least 50 different fish on it. Then last week another 15 or more. I love the rig and now I can catch and release without severely hurting the fish. It should not work... but it works really, really well. Go figure, huh?

I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
