I have found this site to be a great resource for knots. The animations make it simple to tie most of them as well.

I use the improved clinch when tieing my fly to the tippet, a 6X, 2# tippet, and so do most of the fly fishermen. I have never heard of fly fishermen using any other knot, but that doesn't mean that they don't. It not a subject that is brought up very often. Fly fishing is called the "quite sport" and that is because it is usually done alone and no one tells anybody anything. Not at all like this Forum, where they are no secrets. Of course you have to realize that that the forum is fishing in the Gulf and fly fishermen are fishing in a stream that could be 10' wide and 2' deep so if you know where a nice trout is, and what they are hitting on, you keep it to yourself, and enjoy the moment.
I've always tied a clinch or improved clinch. Line to leader has always been an albright knot for me. If tied right these are very strong and easy knots to tie. They work well on smaller diameter lines.

Thanks Big Dawg, I'll give it a try when I get back. It looks easy enough to tie but the #4 diagram made the knot look bulky which it should not be looking at how it is tied. March and early April is usually my best time to trout fish because the weather will keep most of fishermen off the streams. As long as line doesn't freeze to the guides, it's a fishing day. How is the weather over there today? Kinda cool, 37, and breezy, here but it will be a fishing day. It would be nice to catch something, even and old boot would be good.Quote:

The Davy knot that Big Dawg mentioned is great for saving your tippet length, if you have to retie a lot your into your taper on your tippet a lot quicker if your tying the improved clinch knot very often. But if you have a lot of line to work with its great.
I usually use a Palomar knot for terminal tackle and light line. Double line through the hook eye seems to be a stronger attachment to me.
Might try Wired To Fish Knots I have it saved to my favorites and go back every once and awhile and tie some just to make sure I remember how.
