    guide replacement

so i bought this Rod on Ebay (for a really good price) to use as a possible pier rod, it has a nice reactive tip but decent back bone. anyway i knew i would have to do some work to it. It needs a guide and a tip but i was thinking i would just re-guide it. it has four guides and a tip on a 9 foot rod. so to my questions.
    1. i have seen these guides online for sale i just dont know how to measure them (and some are gone) to get the proper replacement sized ones. Any help?
    2. Best thread to wrap and place to find the techniques to do this?
    3. there has to be a sealant or coating over the thread, how much and what kind is best for this?
    4. Anything else i might want to consider since this is my first attempt at such things?

THanks for the help in advance! hope to get down soon to wet a hook and cook in the sun!

All of this stuff that you need can be gotten from The Rod Room or mudhole. Both are rod building supplies. They sell the guides, thread and the epoxy you need for the thread

i have poked around on mudhole.com but as far as determining the size of the guides that i am needing to buy i am not sure how to find that out, they list them as #12 or something like that but no measurements to match them to..
also deciding on the threads and epoxies is above my head as far as understanding what i need verses what they have. i have done a pretty good bit of reading on here and on other forums to try and find out this but havent found anything but highly technical explanations that i am not following. any specific recommendations on thread and epoxy and some source of information on how to determine the size of the guides i need. there is so much knowledge on this forum just hoping to tap into it to advance my own knowledge and understanding of these things so i can learn to one day build a rod.

What size is the rod? And as far as thread goes most people use size D and some people use size A. I usually use D on the bigger rods, 8 foot or longer but a lot of people will disagree with me on that. And the epoxy for the guides, I use prokote. The one for the guides is in a syringe because the two epoxy mixes have to be very close to each other.
