Not much choice there, single strand to hook, swivel, or lure is a haywire twist, sevenstrand to hook, swivel, or lure is a figure-8 for light wire (40 or less). I crimp the tag end of sevenstrand just to clean it up, but the knot will hold. With heavier sevenstrand I put the hook or lure inside a half granny and then put a sure crimp.

The difference on sevenstrand is because my hand crimpers just don't do a good job on the little #1 or #2 sleeves for light wire.

If you can't tie good knots, just do lots of overhands and yes I'm being serious. Early AM when its dark and I don't have my glasses, that's my go to knot for tying on king leaders. People shake their head watching me do it but it works for me.

my knot - learned it 50 some-odd years ago from my uncle on Rabbit Creek - have no idea as regards % breaking strength, only know it works for me...

tie overhand knot 4" up main line... pass thru hook eye... tie 2nd overhand knot around main line, pass tag end UP thru loop... as you tighten, leave a tiny gap (1/16" or less) between knots... slide 2nd knot down to hook eye, wet knot, pull main line, 2nd knot should "roll over" against 1st knot... works best with softer mono... easy to tie quickly in the dark with 65 year old eyes...

That was the video that got me using the FG knot , Have used it ever since.

Palomar is my favorite when hooks, swivels, lures are tied to end of line. Trilene or Uni if tying where line cannot be passed thru the Palomar. John G. knot for tying heavy mono leader to mono main line. (Tie leader around main line with overhand knot, then tie uni knot with main line around leader, pull tight and slide unit knot up leader to the overhand knot. Never had one fail. Thanks John!)

I have always done the same with an improved clinch if there is much difference in line/leader size.

I can see my trembling fingers tying that knot after I've had my second Gotcha cut off during a hot Spanish bite. ----On a windy day on the crowded octi. Unh-huh, unh-huh.

It apparently works like Chinese handcuffs. I don't use braid, but if I did, that would be a good knot to know. I might have to tie an overhand knot in the end for a stop just for insurance.
