Every fisherman needs this.
The link > Florida Sportsman Sport Fish of the Gulf of Mexico Book: Vic Dunaway, Eric Wickstrom, Bryan Henry, Kevin R. Brant: 0053394000330: Amazon.com: Books
I have one. It is very useful. I'm not advertising, I'm recommending.
Pros:
Food values
Distinguishing features
Common and scientific names
Average and record sizes
Gulf of mexico ranges
Sporting abilities
Angling methods
State by state survey
Cons:
Cover does not last."A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work."

It is pretty good, but I like this one better...

This is the only popular volume by a marine scientist to date which is devoted to the fishes of the entire Gulf of Mexico. While meticulously accurate, the language and style are appropriate and enjoyable for young teenagers through adults. There is information on distribution and life history as well as interesting comments, trivia, and anecdotes on the 300 or so most frequently encountered fishes of the Gulf of Mexico. Being from a culinary family, there are several delicious but unusual recipes included.Last edited by Pier#r; 04-25-2017 at 11:32 AM.

Ya get what you pay for ;-) lol
There are several pretty good ID books and a BUNCH of laminated folding guides.
IMHO the better ones have color photos as opposed to illustrations.
Sometimes those can be misleading...Last edited by Pier#r; 04-25-2017 at 11:45 AM.
I saw one yesterday but it was closed mouth. Would not eat anything thrown. I personally know of 3 that have been caught in the last two weeks. No kings yet.
