I am interested in making an offer but am a bit concerned about knock offs.
I have seen this reel for sale new for $185. Chinese Van Staal's are out there now.
How can I know which it is?Beware the power of fools in large numbers

I've seen reels that look like VS's but they aren't. As I understand it, there are components/parts made in China, but they're made to VS standards, not Chinese standards.
The serial number on this one is 01818, and has the VS name and logo in 3 places. The foot says Van Staal China.
I've had the reel for about 2 years (?) and have yet to use it, but I bought it used and sent to Half-Hitch.
Maybe our more knowledgeable posters will offer some expertise?
here's some other people talking about them:

I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
