Are you ready for some great fishing?
Some of the best fishing of the year is right around the corner. I look for a solid week of 70 degree weather. I know that this is not a scientific approach, since the critical factor is water temperature, but the two are related and what triggers fish movement is the warming trend. Stormy conditions with high winds/strong wave action often dirties the water and turns off many game fish species until the water is no longer roily.
I'm enjoying the anticipation of the coming season! Everything is ready and now it's just waiting for the fish to show up! I should note that I'm not encouraging anyone else to wait until a certain time. By all means, go and enjoy the outdoor experience. There aren't any guarantees, anyway, since the fish are for the most part, unaware of my expectations (not that they'd cooperate if they had that awareness).
Right now, sheepshead are staging for their yearly get-together. Spanish mackerel are showing up already, though a good warm up will being them closer to the pier in bigger numbers. I'm ready to catch a bunch of 'em and have my first fresh Spanish mackerel fish-fry!
How about you?
