Saltwater "pan fish" are key to winter fishing: pompano, specks, white trout, flounder, whiting (of different varieties), croaker, and sheepshead are good on the table although the menu rotates throughout the cold water season. You will also catch black drum and redfish but for best eating stay on the small end of the drum clan. You are on the tail end of a particularly long warm-water season of fishing and there may still be small spanish mackeral around.
Live, fresh bait like ghost shrimp or regular shrimp are a good start. http://gulfshorespierfishing.com/gen...-overall-bait/
Bigger saltwater fish like sharks, bonito, and bull reds are still around for fun but are more sporatic and would not figure prominently in dinner plans.

I saw a video on how to make a ghost shrimp sucker and how to use it but...
What do you look for in the sand to "suck" ?
Do you find them year round?
Do you do it in the water line or wet sand area.
I would make one if I knew how to use it - any tips would be appreciated.

Here's what you're looking for.

I've slurped a few during the summer, but didn't find as many. But I didn't put much effort into it either. When I usually go get them, I'm wading out around knee deep. I wear waders. A north wind helps out keeping the surf down. It's got to be pretty calm to get them. After slurping a small dip net will help to grab them out of the water.
From my experience, if you're not freezing your B@11s off and half wet, you won't find many. After doing it, you'll realize why they aren't sold.
Hope this helps.

I've tried in the lagoon and bays with not much to show. They are mainly found in the surf in your intertidal area. Also, try to find areas with cuts or troughs that have been made and that'll help you out when deal with the surf.

Got a report of a great whiting bite in the surf on the west end of DI.
