Thread: Dangers of Pier Fishing

Well some that know me from the piers know I have something similar to Limb-Gordle Muscular Dystrophy. It causes progressive weakness in various muscle groups over time. There is no treatments or cure and eventually it will kill me. Now I say this not trying for sympathy as I have accepted this and made peace with our Lord and attempt to live a wholesome life as prescribed. Anyway one of the dangers is something we all take for granted and that is just basically walking out onto the piers. It can be any pier in our Gulf Coast region.

Yesterday, I arrived at 6:40 am at Pensacola Beach Pier. After paying Devin , the attendant was helping by pulling my cart up the hill when I stepped into a scalloped area of a board and fell hard. Ì landed on my right ankle much like I have before but this time the pain was much more intense. After getting to a sitting position Ì gingerly attempted to put weight on it. The pain was intense to say the least. Luckily Devine dad showed up and between the three of us we.were able to get me into my truck and I drove home. Later I went to urgent care with the aid of my brother and discovered that I had fractured my ankle in 3 places and will need surgery to fix it correctly. So the moral of this story is dont chew bubble gum, talk and walk while taking it for granted or bad ju-ju will bite you in the bottom.

So very sorry to hear your misfortune. I know the injury will interfere with your fishing for a while. Yours is a good example of how quickly bad fortune can strike, and how unexpected it can be. I hope you recover quickly.

Sorry to hear that. Several years ago I broke my ankle in two places getting out of a SUV. Yes, it was as dumb as it sounds. Surgery, plate, screws, etc. I feel your pain and will be praying for speedy healing.

Sorry to hear that. Both your recent tumble/injury, and also the ongoing struggle with the long term situation. But I have to say,…some serious “good on ya” is due for your getting out there and giving it your all. Many could learn from that kind of gumption.

Thank for the encouraging remarks. The cross Ì bear can truly pull me down if I let but I choose to believe I am still here to serve some purpose the Lord has in mind for me. Fishing has been my elixir of life and while I may not catch a fish with every cast Ì am honored to spend the time given to me helping others find the passions of life within them by fishing.

Ì had surgery Tuesday, morning and now will set off the metal detectors at the Air Port and probably can't take any more MRI's. 12 screws and 2 plates....

Sorry to hear of your accident and surgery. I also broke my right ankle and had surgery several years ago. Not as badly as yours. I only needed 1 plate and 8 screws. But on the bright side, I caught the largest King of my life while still on crutches and recovering. Best of wishes and hope for a speedy recovery.

Good news, titanium is a paramagnetic material and is safe in an MRI's magnetic field, and as such it also passes through metal detectors.
