Taking up Surfishing

Hello Everyone
I have been lurking around the forum for awhile and reading all the great post and just wanted to ask a few questions. I am renewing my interest in surfishing and would just like to improve my efforts.

1. Where are some good locations where I don't have to fight the beach crowds? I was at Perdido Pass this weekend and the place was packed right up to the rock jetties.

2. What rigs do you guys use? I am not an artifical lure guy I usually use cut or fresh bait.

3. What are some of the better baits for off the beach? Has anyone had any luck with sandfleas?

I appreciate all the advice in advance and will continue to enjoy the forum posts.

I don't really surf fish but I do occasionally fish for whiting off the beach...with that being said the setup is no different than what you use for the pier. Welcome to the forum!

You can hit up pier#er he is a boatless guide and he can show you places and tricks to make your time out eventful.

Perdido Pass use to be my surf/jetty fishing choice but since they built those condos on the east side its kinda tough to get a spot unless you fish real late in the evening and even then you might be fighting a tourists to get them away from your lines.

yeah, EARLY and LATE are the times to fish the popular spots and even then you will likely share it with other 'hardcore' fishers.

A few years ago I was sharing the east side of the jetty with 8 or 10 night swimmers in mid summer at 10 at night!

Yeah they had clothes on..Some had long pants on..Dont know how they could swim in bluejeans...Luckily the tide was moving slow and the sharks werent looking for a snack.

I've had the same thing happen on the beaches around cotton bayou are with night swimmers wanting to swim under my lines while I was bottom fishing for whatever was lurking the area...I dont get it when there is so much beach to either side of me that they could use...That scenario seems to happen to me alot...Maybe they feel safe swimming next to someone.
