Set-Up question/opinion

Ok I've got a Penn Conflict 4000 spooled up with 300 yards of 15lb yellow hi viz power pro spectra on a 7'6 medium heavy temple fork outfitters rod that I'm planning on throwing x-raps and Yoyos off of for kings. My question to all you guys is if I wanted to could I effectively fish live bait or snobble with this set up if I added a 14-17lb mono/floro leader of maybe 20 yards or so? That way I would have a type of shock absorber when I got bit and would help in keeping my presentation more stealthy than just strait braid. The reel I know is alittle on the light side for kings but I'm a fanatic of fishing for things on light tackle and feel like 300 yards of line is sufficient enough for at least a shot on most kings. I also am aware that braid is somewhat controversial when it comes to live bait fishing because it is easy to cut others off when you get bit and can be hard to see sometimes and the last thing I want to be is that guy that nobody wants to be beside on the rail or cause any types of problems. On the pier when it comes to line for King fishing, people like the visible line so they know where you are. And, if people use steel leaders for king mackerel you can use colored line. I see people using it all the time for kings.

Another problem with braid is the degree of entanglement if you get tangled. This is a real problem with a wind and large bellies in line, so if you are live baiting you will want to watch your belly.

The rig itself should handle most kings you can reasonably expect to hook into---they aren't all 40#s. The other concerns were most efficiently and knowledgeably dealt with.

Getting braid into a tangle with others can be a real biggie when you're drifting a bait. Nearly impossible to get out and expensive to cut.

Sounds like a real good setup for casting. I have something very similar.

I wish everyone who uses braid used Hi-Vis barid. Most of the green stuff is almost impossible to see, makes keeping track of their line really difficult.

Also, if you only add 20 yards of mono, you will be casting the knot, which can cut down on your casting distance. Others who use braid might chime in on this, if its a significant issue.
