Just wondering if any one on here has used rod carriers or maybe even built one? I live about 4hrs drive from any other the piers and carrying my rods in the car gets in the way some times! I have an idea of what I want but can't find it on the market so I'm thinking I will build it, if anyone has thoughts or ideas on this please feel free to share!!

Thule or Yakima ski racks , They mount to the cross bar of the roof rack , They lock so you can feel comfortable making a pitstop and they'll still be their . I found mine on Ebay , if you watch you can get them at a fair price , make sure that they have locks ,keys can be ordered by the number on the lock .
Put the rods in butt forward , road debris and bird strikes will be less likely to damage the rod .
A lot of kayak tournement guys build a copy of the ARE RodPods to mount on Yakima racks. I built one but rarely use it, not enough room with the kayak. Its a kit the uses pvc pipe. Look at Flukemaster on youtube. Probably can mount it on factory suv roof rack somehow as well. Dont know if that would suit your needs or not just throwing it out. Not sure if your asking about roof rack or rod holder to mount to roof rack.
Usually we carry my rods on the inside of the car but I'm wanting to start carrying them on top to give more room inside the car (suv). I usually bring around 6 rods when

I have seen inside inside storage racks by others
All mine (many....more then 6) are inside with 1/2 back seat down and rods through the console 9ft the longest (explorer)
With cart,cooler on reese hitch carrier

PVC pipe with a threaded cap on each end, remove reels, and place rods in the PVC, alternating the rods...put one in handle first, next in tip first, etc. You can use rod socks to keep the eyes from getting tangled up

I've used big PVC before. Ratchet strapped down real well.
I have the same problem. I live in Atlanta and most of my rods are one piece, one of them a 9 ft one. I don't have room for anyone else in the SUV (Toyota Rav4) so I either come by myself or rent a larger vehicle if my wife is coming with me. I even thought about renting a small storage unit there and keeping them in there so they will be there when I come down. The obvious problem with that, beside cost, is you can't go fishing anywhere else (but why would you want to :)).Quote:
