Who did it?
Watch your backcast and watch for those who may be about to make a cast

It gets crazy when a few folks start catching fish on the octi,I stayed at the very edge because rubbing elbows with others I dont know and in a rush to beat some body to a fish can cause stuff like that,I also do the same when dove hunting lol.Hate to see stuff like this and painful to look at

I would like to see 4' marks on the deck and 1 person per spot, lot of folks wait til some body catches 1 and then shoulder in and start flinging no matter how long the other person has been there for a long time actively fishing said spot, that was just my view for a week last year watching from a safe spot. YMMV

I have no knowledge that this factor has anything to do with this incident, but it is also not wise to walk about between the red line and the rail on the octi. If you leave the rail it is wise to go immediately across the red line perpendicular to the rail, not on a diagonal and not walking about in this danger zone.
Any time you are between the rail and the red line you are exposed.People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

I just started fishing the pier and have loved it. A lot of really nice people out there who are willing to help someone learn. So I haven't fished in non-tourist season yet. Does the crowd on the octi die down as we move into fall thru early spring?

Ouch !! reminds me of some of the people at the tattoo shop next to were I worked in Maryland and they pay for that kind of stuff .
Kidding aside any Pier can be dangerous , I cringe every time I see small kid running ahead of their parents were they don't have control
of them . I've stopped a few of them and told them how dangerous it is , Most understand but there's been a few that are just oblivious .If you are going to fight, fight like you are the third monkey on the ramp to Noah's ark and brother, it's starting to rain!

I just love it when myself or someone else catches a fish and some little ol lady 5 or 6 people down the pier casts across everyone to fish that spot.
I've got a new, never used, large 36" pier fishing net for sale with 30' heavy duty rope. Looking to get just $38 and no extra tax! Msg me if you want pics.
