Question for Pier#r

I have Penn Fierce 5000 that I bought as a combo but the rod got broken. I want to buy a new rod to put the 5000 on. What do you suggest? I mostly fish from the pier. I only get to go 15-20 days per year so I don't want to spend a fortune. However I have noticed how much more fun a light weight fast action rod is to fish compared to the cheap white Ugly Stick rod that I am using now with the 5000. I would pay up to $100 for the right rod. Love to hear your opinion.

I now have a Penn Fierce 4000, 5000 and 6000. I LOVE those combos. I hung a Jack on the 4000 last week and that was an absolute blast. I think this is a great combo for me. It works well but does not break the bank.

There is a store up in Moulton in NW Alabama called Shelton's. They have INCREDIBLE prices on fishing tackle but it is all freshwater. Would it be okay to use a "freshwater" rod off the pier with a Fierce 5000? I try to rinse off my gear after every trip. Would a rod designed for freshwater hold up over time?

I don't know about everyone else but if you have to travel back and forth a lot you might want to check out the Penn rods that J & M Tackle on Canal Road has in stock. I've seen a lot of the 9 ft. two piece rods on the pier they are reasonably priced and have I seen lots of Kings landed on them. A plus is being the 2 piece they travel in the car pretty well.

Like Robert said, if you wait till your next trip down and stop by J&M, you can find just what you are looking for. I have a Profile rod that I bought from there a few years ago. 8ft, lightweight but plenty of backbone, and the best part is they only run about $60.
