    Quantum Omni Surf Combo

Do you guys think this would be a decent setup for the pier?

    Re: Quantum Omni Surf Combo

I have no idea of how smooth the drag and line roller are but...
    Line Capacity: 17/225
And it comes prespooled with 20# ???
There would be well under 200yards of 20# on this reel.
IMHO this rig is 'just waiting to be stripped' by a decent king oke:

Maybe it will work out with enough 15# line? (at least 250 yards) :headbang:
    (RETIRED) mostly.

    Re: Quantum Omni Surf Combo

Thanks for the input. I'm new to saltwater pier fishing and looking to get into it without breaking the bank because I usually only make it down twice a year.

I will probably make my own pier cart but I am in the market for 2 entry level combos before I come down. I will just use one of bass rods for catching bait.

What do you think about this one?

Brian, I only buy 99 cent Sabiki rigs from BPS. I agree with #r, line capacity and a smooth drag are critical if you hook up a decent King.
Do yourself a favor and go to J & M Tackle in Orange Beach and tell them what you’re going to target and they will set you up with a rig that will do the job. They have tons of combos; and an excellent ala-carte’ menu as well.
    The staff knows pier fishing.

Over-kill, don't go over 8' and go with a one pice rod if you can transport it.

    Thanks again.

I do prefer one piece rods but I will need to get the 2 piece for travel. I will try J&M when I'm in the area. Last year we went to PCB and got burned by their local tackle shop. They were wiped out and I ended up renting rods.

Brian, call J&M at 1-800-483-7069, ask for John G or Terry Looney who are both very knowledgeable/experts about pier fishing; tell them what kind of fishing you want to do and how much you are willing to invest.
Find out what they have and at least get a professional opinion. John G is the J in J&M.
