Obviously it’s been a while since I’ve been down. And haven’t really been on the board since that $@?%# Sally but there appear to be some obvious changes related to the pier and I would like to be, if someone would be so kind, educated before I get down Thursday. What is the nub? Also how far down is the pier open? As far as the bathrooms at the mid? What about the cleaning station, is it open? What has the king fishing been like with the shortened pier? Thank you
The Nub is the end where we are allowed to go to it's about 50 feet past the bathrooms. The bathrooms were open when I was there couple weeks ago ad looked like the cleaning tables were operating.
The nub can be crowded since it is smaller than the old end-island. That also makes the sharks and flipper crowd each other for a place in the buffet line. More robust drag settings to ski smaller fish past the gauntlet are common.
Reports say king hookups are more difficult to maneuver since the nub is NOT at the end of the remaining pier -- damaged sections extend beyond the nub until there is a gap with no structure.

Thanks all. Obviously makes you realize how important the octi was. Since my travel tube can only hold a few rods, sort of sounds like bringing my king rig would be a waste of space. Hafta rethink what I’m going to bring. :confused:
You'd be surprised what you can fit in a rod tube.... but king gear would stay at home for me, still one for the jacks or bull reds,
The k frame guides make it a little more challenging, one day most might be 2pc rods when the small car comes instead of the suv

even if i go east, I will down size some
A (soft, padded, wheeled) golf bag travel cover will fit a massive number of multi-section rods but not the reels, which get their own duffle. I am nicer to my tackle than a random baggage handler so a soft bag for skis is adequate protection for longer rods.
And then I use the same 2-3 rods most of the time anyway.
