non return beach rig
On tv today the"wild fisherman" was surf fishing in Africa . They would cast out a 4 or 6 oz sputnik sinker than attach this rig to the line( with a double drop&bait on it)then rod and wave action would take out/down to the sinker. It would somehow tilt to prevent it from washing back in/up. The rig itself looked like 2 inch long spring about a 1/4 " diameter coil with a 2 inch arm perpendicular to it in each end . Anybody know anything about this.? I don't have a DVR so I had the one chance at it. thx jjm

Re: non return beach rig
Sounds like another variation of a non-breakaway weighted slider rig, i.e. for bottom fishing.
Tossing the initial weight alone allows for much distance on the cast, then slide the slider down the main line.
Just like a trolley rig on piers.

Re: non return beach rig
Sounds an awful lot like trolley fishing.

Re: non return beach rig
Yeah, I saw that too, got me curious about it. WFN repeats shows a lot, I'm sure it'll be back on this week. I couldn't find a video of it yet.

Re: non return beach rig
"Single Pole Trolly" of sorts.
They do this off the piers in the Outer Banks.
I have done it at times off GS, Navarre and Ok from the side with no problems (mostly off season when it is not crowded), easy to control if someone needs to get by.
Throw out a large weight by itself with a bead after the weight.
Then use a latch swivel backwards with leader, hook and bait hanging down.
Hook the swivel on your main line and let it slide down.
If you want you can use a float to keep your bait from swimming to the bottom.
When the fish hits it runs until the swivel hits the bead at the weight.
Yes, I know latch swivels can open once they hit - just explaining the theory of the system
The old timers like to use it to keep their live bait in one place without actually using a trolley.
