January - What's Biting and When

    Looking at the chart...
Are things usually that dead in the first week of January?
    Both pier and beach
As luck has it, I have been in a position the last few years to come down at the low catch times

As a fellow Illinoisan, there is more biting down there than up here. Barely.

Check out the January bite from previous years. I was just checking out reports from 2018 and there were some pretty impressive whiting chew-downs that January.

Historically the water temperature then is in the middle to low 60s.
Warmer water usually boosts the sheepshead bite.
    Cooler water favors the whiting.
