Gonna be down in Ft. Morgan for a little R&R. We will be at a place on Chickasaw Rd. This is just east of Ft. M and on the bay. We have 315 ft. pier to fish from. I have seen the public pier at O.Beach but never fished any of this before. Along for the trip are a 7 year old grandson and my 15 year old son. We want to catch fish, preferably good eatin fish. Any pointers on what, how, bait and tackle sources would be very helpful! Thanks for any help!
If that pier has lights that shine on the water at night you are in a great place for speckled and white trout around it at night.
If not, the fishing will be 'fair' at best.
Try pieces of shrimp on a small to medium sized hook and just a splitshot or two for weight.
Around the rip-rap to sand transition try a small mullet or other minnow about two feet under a float.

I occasionally get to fish a dock in that area that produces a lot of specs. Use a tiny hook baited with a small piece of shrimp to catch a few 6-10" croaker and throw out away from the lights and you may catch a huge redfish. Net some minnows or use live shrimp under a float or cast small soft plastic "fluke" minnow lures for specks. Carolina rig with live shrimp or minnows for flounder. Gulf Shores Marina nearby sells live bait. You bass tackle will suffice for most anything you will encounter with spinning outfits being preferred for using lighter line. I have had my best success after midnight. The water there wont be very deep and the fish there will be easily spooked so keep the noise on the dock to a minimum if you want to keep catching. Top water twitch baits may produce specs all night but more likely from first light until sunrise. Be sure to rinse your reels with freshwater from a tap after you fish or the salt will ruin them. Good luck and post a report with some pictures while you are there.

There's a lot of flounder around fort Morgan also but +1 on the live croaker
Gonna give the croakers a try, I'm bringing my 15' surf(Barnett spillway)rod. Figured I could put out a croaker with it and fish for specks and flounder too!
Hey guys, I was reading on another thread about fishing towards Dixie Bar! Is this off the west tip past the fort? And how do you access it?
We just got back from the beach last week and stayed across the street on the beach side. My dad and I took the kayak out and fished that same pier and the ones around it. In about 45 minutes of fishing I caught four trout ( 3 specks and 1 white trout) while my dad was the "trolling motor". I caught them on artificial DOA shrimp in new penny color by casting straight into the light. You could hear them hitting the surface and there were plenty bites to be had. I'm sure live shrimp would have been better but we weren't going to fool with that in the little kayak. Hope this helps and good luck!
