Our annual fishing trip is scheduled for next Saturday we are currently considering canceling the trip with everything going on, it'll be the first time in 10 years. Can anyone update me on the status of Fort Morgan? Is it open to fishing right now? Any reds around?
I walked out at the “broken road” (now Burgoyne St.) Friday, and the water was good. Pompano & whiting were being caught at the time but the guys who I talked to did not report reds. I would imagine reds have been caught, just not right then. I may hit it at daybreak. Will report back if I do.
All I saw this morning was whiting and pompano, and not a lot of them (dawn to 8:00). Personally only got small whiting - fish gum and fresh dead on the pomp rigs - I had cut mullet on a big hook past the bar, but little fish were ragging the bait. Bait on the short side of the bar was immediately attacked by small ones until gone. Neap tide. Not much in the way of surface activity seen, but the water was clear enough. Whiting were mostly inside the bar, pompano outside as far as I saw. I did see one fellow land a nice fat pomp.
Maybe others had better luck after we left to see Gameday.
