I haven't a clue as to who these folks are, but God does, and I will say a prayer for the Family's peace & comfort.

Die if you must, but die on your home turf with your face to the wind, not in some stinking hellhole 2,000 kilometers away, among people you neither know nor care about.

Re: ITS A SAD DAY..
I spent many hours on the rail with Mr Dodson. I called him and Mr Pierce pawpaw . About 12 Ms Dodson would bring lunch and always seem to have enough for my brother and me. They will be missed liked they were loved.

Re: ITS A SAD DAY..
God bless you Glenice to join her beloved husband John Dotson and console your family and friends.
They were almost always together on the pier even though Mrs D didn't fish much.
Still she loved being out there and socializing with everyone.
I NEVER heard her say a bad word, or a bad thing about anyone (even 'googans' ;-)
She would raise her voice though when someone started trash talking Univ of Alabama footaball.
Chris "coolerrider" can confirm this, but I remember one year before the AL-AR game she was verbaly jarring with "Earl" from Arkansas. When she boldy stated "Arkansas will NEVER beat the University of Alabama." Well Arkansas had a very good program that year and they whopped Bama pretty bad.
But she, being the good lady she was, served up her 'crow' and a lot of other good vittles to Earl in payment.
In the late 1990s they both had hip (or knee?) replacements and I started calling them "The Bionic Couple"
They luved it! And they loved bringing their grandkids and seeing other folks' kids and helping them rig up and catch mackerel.
John B. Dotson luved him some axehandle spanish :P :headbang:
He passed away in April 2007, sadly he never even got to see the new pier. :'(

They lost their son John Ward in 1980.
He was a Chickasaw policeman killed in the line of duty

A ball park (next to I-65 @ Lee St) was built and dedicated in his honor

In 2010 a Councilman for the City of Chickasaw had recommended the park be bulldozed to make a parking lot for a proposed bibgo hall. :
Thankfully those plans never materialized in the fray over gambling and public outcry to preserve the park :headbang:

Re: ITS A SAD DAY..
Three weeks ago Mrs. Dotson asked me and her daughter Lisa to take her to the pier. We gathered her wheelchair, that day her version of a piercart, and set out for the pier. When we got to the parking lot her eyes lit up. As we wheeled her past the t she said ,"this new pier is quiet a bit longer than our pier. John B would have loved this pier." She spent several hours that day on the octi looking, thinking and even told a few stories about the old pier folks. She took a few pictures with some of the ole schoolers. She really had a great day. As we were wheeling her off the pier that afternoon, she said,"This is probably that last time I will see this pier, but I'm glad I got to see it. John B and I had a lot of memories out there. We fed and raised a lot of those kids".
I know that is a very true statement because I was one of those kids.
I can only imagine she is sitting on the end of the pier, on her end of the bench, she just fed everyone, she is making those circle/flower things from a piece of mono, watching Mr.Pierce and Mr Dotson on the rail. I'm sure she has already fussed at Mr.Pierce about his tobacco. I wonder if Mr.Dotson uses elbow pads on that pier?
I was fortunate enough to have them in my life. They were wonderful.

Re: ITS A SAD DAY..
I really Hate Reading this.Mrs. Dotson was like a Grandmother to me on the pier She would feed us Kids Didn't matter who we belonged to she took us all under her wing She was the sweetest Lady. When Fishing was slow she would always tell me You got to put the starvation wiggle on that Jig to make those Spanish hit that jig. Mr. Dotson taught me how to Fillet and skin those spanish so we could eat them. I love these two I Ran into Mrs.Dotson at the hospital in Mobile one day I didn't see her face but she spoke to someone as soon as she did I recognized that Sweet voice of hers . Mr Dotson was in the hospital for something and she invited me up to his room That was the last time I got to see them .Rest In Peace You will Be sadly Missed

Re: ITS A SAD DAY..
When I depart this place, and go to the great fishing pier in the sky, I pray folks will remember me as Mr. & Mrs. Dotson are remembered. It's hard sometimes, but I want to strive to achieve that the best I can. I did not know the Dotsons, but they must have been great folks. I will keep them in mind also. Thanks everyone for being so great to me on the pier. I really enjoy it, and intend to be work hard to be your friend out there, the best I can. You are more important than a "fish".

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
