There is one on sale at J&M that has very good detail, but is more like a handbook. I think this is it (link below). Mike Lane's site used to have one with artwork, but I can't find it now.

Dr. Bob Shipp's is actually an enjoyable read. It is a nice blend of science, practical knowledge, and an entertaining tale or two. https://www.amazon.com/Shipps-Guide-...s=books&sr=1-2
+1 for Dr. Bob Shipp's book.
Interesting that Dr Shipp’s book has mixed online reviews, he’s such a leading expert.
I bought one called “Sport Fish of the Gulf of Mexico” by Vic Dunaway. It’s really good.
The tag line reads: “All Popular Species. I.D. Info, Edibility, How to Tips. “
It’s got pictures and covers in-depth all the species, even talking about all the local names for the different fish. It’s an outstanding guide I think.
If you want a book just on fish identification, get "Fishes of the Gulf of Mexico: Texas, Louisiana and Adjacent Waters" by Hoese and Moore. Doesn't have anything about how to catch them, but has identification of just about anything you can find in the Gulf. Not just sport fish, but all of the odd-ball stuff you might catch.
Here is a link to the Mike Lane (and Jerald Horst) book. Art is by Duane Raver. If you use the "Look Inside" function you can see and example or two plus a list of the species.
