Ghost shrimp

Early morning, cold weather is the perfect time to get your waders on and pump out ghost shrimp. Great baits for pompano, whiting and sheepshead. And they're free for the taking! Good exercise (and we all need that!) Take the live ghost shrimp to the pier and utilized "magic thread" or a similar elastic thread for holding your bait on your hook. I utilize either a Carolina rig or a dropper rig, depending on whether I'm going after whiting or pompano. They'll both hit either rig.

As with other species, I'd encourage fishermen to not deplete the resource. If you don't use all of your ghost shrimp, put them in the fridge and use them the following day. If you're not going fishing the following day (or the day after that), freeze them. Frozen ghost shrimp are effective while fishing for either pomps or whiting.

Yeah man they’re worldwide with several different species and of course oversucked There’s actually limits in some spots I think it was the year after Ivan when Solly called me and said Dude you’re not gonna believe this- he met Pompano Joe ( Perdido Key legend) down at West Beach and he was sucking ghost shrimp Back then everybody was going to Lowe’s and assembling their own suckers I’m pretty sure about the timeline I was thinking it was y2k because I remember asking Harley when he was gonna get on the ghost shrimp train and he thought I was messin with him! It would be cool if everybody shared their story about the first time they were ghosted- I may be way off😂
