Gear Rental ?

Making our first trip to Gulf Shores next week. Is there any place to rent fishing gear at or near the Pier to use at the Pier?

The pier has gear, but its not the best.
Are you driving or flying?
If driving, bring some medium spinning gear, 6-7'' rods with 200 yards of 8-10# line.
Its all you need for most fish off the pier unless you target kings, bull reds & jacks.

You can rent at the pier. You can purchase a few rod and reel combos at wal mart or J and m to fit your needs for not much more than what rental will cost you, especially if you fish more than a few days on the pier. Just search this sight for recommended reel, line, tackle and rod size. Your bass equipment or catfish set up may be suitable. About everything you need to know and learn you can get from this sight. And watch and ask questions, most everyone is willing to help. You will learn more by watching and listening. Hope this helps.

If you don't own any gear you are better of buying a spinning combo from J&M Tackle in Orange Beach or Walmart that is already spooled with line. I think the pier rents them for $3 per hour and that would be enough to buy your own over the course of a couple of days of fishing.

I'd go to J&M instead of Walmart. You will get good advise as to what you need and how to rig up so you won't be wasting money on crap that you don't need. They have all kinds of combos from low end to the best money can buy. The professional advice you will get is priceless.

I also strongly recommend J&M Tackle over Wal Mart. All the sales people are fishermen and they won't load you down with a bunch of junk that won't work. Their prices are competitive with discount stores and the service is incomparable.
