Thread: Fishing first week of Nov.

It's been 5 years since staying in Gulf Shores the month of Jan and fishing almost everyday. Loved the surf fishing, don't have much of it in Nebraska. Looking for any advice. If anyone would like to go fishing would be great. Thanks for any help.

My best advice is to go to the fishing discussion archived pages and (since they're dated posts) seek out the reports on what was biting during the first week of November in past years and on what bait the fish were caught. There's typically a bit of a fall pompano bite mixed in with whiting and redfish. Flounder fishing is closed (which just means you can't keep them) during the month of November, just FYI.

Have been looking at dated post and youtube videos. Each season is different and will have 3 days to fish and not have my wife hate me! Fishing always can cause some trouble. My game plan is to walk the beaches at low tide and look for run outs etc. Let's go fishing

Eye is right...I just got back from a week at Gulf Shores. I fished every morning and every night within 50 yds of my condo, in the surf...caught reds, pomps, whiting, Spaniards, and assorted other species, most on peeled fresh dead shrimp (even the reds hit it!) and the Spaniards on a white 1 oz jig spoon. Caught fish every outing, even though the brown weeds/grass made some days more difficult than others. I hope you do as well, Permit!

I'm headed down on the 5th for a long weekend. For what it's worth, the surf(current, wind direction, wave height) will dictate when I visit my favorite pier. Specifically looking to relax and hope for a tight line due to a whiting, slot red, or the occasional spanish) along with my favorite malt beverage. At this stage of my life my time fishing is amply therapeutic to reenergize.

One year the first strong front may come through in late October. Another year, it might be the 2nd week of October, or even in November.
Adjusting to the conditions at hand can improve success.
My advice: as 'your time' gets closer watch the marine forecast and plan around that...

Winds are forecast to remain offshore most of the week, with a slight chance of rain and a frontal passage Thursday/Friday.
The water should gradually clear the beginning of the week while we are in a NEAP tide (Monday-Tuesday).
Morning low tide after that, with a nice incoming tide (afternoon/evening) that might make beach fishing 'interesting' then...

Check social media for any trends (whiting at the pier, pompano from the beaches, sheepshead at the bridge, reds at the fort, etc.) and use that as a yard stick.
Be careful not to go off 'chasing' reports (even yesterday's), because every day (like every year) is different.
