The whole fish cleaning situation seems to be in flux. I would ask the peir staff what they official rule is.
They have trash cans next to the cleaning stations that say to put the remains in there.

That's no way to treat your Dawg :o
I'd take them away with you. If you're checked by the Marine Police or Fsh and Wildlife they may write ya something you don't want. I'd suggest cleaning them then carrying off the remains and dumping them in the dumpster in the NW corner of the pier parking lot.
I hope for a positive out come to this..... before the season starts good.....This is one reason I have always liked this pier, even when it was shorter....now with it's length....one of the best on the Gulf coast....get rid of the netters and that would make it the best....they deplete so many fish from there netting.
take'em to the parking lot and dump them in a state owned truck,,out of the bag...

just make sure it aint the one I am driving..........
then it best not be the first one everyone comes to as the fish cleaning fiasco the state has started is assinine. instead of coming up with a suitable solution they just change thier minds like the wind.
i hate my fishing season is probably cut short from the git-e-up this year cause i would like to see how this one plays out first hand.
Received this email from Mike Guinn today, about the one that was forwarded to him from the Orange Beach mayor..... that I had sent.
Dear Mr Simon
The cleaning of fish is still permitted on the Gulf State Park Fishing Pier.
The only change is that you can no longer throw the fish carcass into the Gulf, It has to be put in the receptacles near the cleaning tables.
I'm sorry that you were misinformed.
If you have any further concerns or questions please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
Michael J Guinn
Now if this is the way someone does it, and they get checked in the parking lot, with no other fish parts but fillets, I would assume a ticket could still be given??and how does that work with length limits??
:poke1: hope yall get it wored out before I get there on the 1st, mike

This will soon become the new uniform for the pier staff and fishers if the park management sticks with his stinking plan. There is no way on earth that plastic garbage cans are even a temporary solution; IMHO

..and this is what we fought so hard to avoid. :guns:
Can you imagine what that is gonna smell like come July and August when the sabiki brigade is filling them up with hardtail remains?
I think, I'll just break off all my kings hooked, ....spanish will be cleaned and taken though, and hopefully a ling this year .....flounder and pomps too....save room in the cooler for the offshore fish to take home for fish fry's :yippee:
I hope Dawg & son are shopping for gas masks and eating Wheaties.
How much you recon a garbage can full of smelly fish carcasses weighes? ??? ::)
:puke:
What happens to an overloaded garbage bag? :spank: :spank: :spank: :wall: :wall:

I would say a lot, if the bag will hold it, and all those sharp bones....not a job I would like to do at the end of the day, just because of a not so smart law(like the gill net one and a bait net )....I won't be contributing to much to the can this year, unless the grand son and friend catch some good fish to take home(and I'm sure they will) at least his friend.... might set them up fishing for flounder or pomps after they fill there spanish fix....and have cleaned in the condo in the past....freeze the remains and then discard
I'm curious to know if the state considers this dilemea 'resolved', or if the sign and 'carcass can' is a temporary 'fix' until a shorebound cleaning table is built? :-\
Cuz when those cans get 'stuffed' with sheepshead carcasses and the spines are sticking through the bags, somebody could get hurt! ??? :poke:
Plus does the sign absolve pierfishers from being checked and ticketed in the parking lot? :o >:(
I am glad I live close enough to continue to bring my whole fish home. 8)
I'd like to be there 1st time a 40 lb bag of stanky carci
busts open and sloshes over the collective tourist's feet.
Only in Alabama would an effort to prevent commercial fisheries from dumping tons of waste result in recreational fishermen not being able to chum :violent
I've started burying them in the garden, feed the plants instead ;)
LIKE I HAVE SAID , ON ANOTHER THREAD. THIS IS GONNA GET BUCKED UP FOR DAWG, AND THE LITTLE STAFF , THAT THEY HAVE AT THE PIER. :wall: :wall: THE STATE OF ALABAMA, HAS GOT THERE HEAD UP THERE A$$E$, ON THIS ONE, DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. :puke: :puke: BUT LIKE I HAVE SAID TIME, AND TIME AGAIN. WE ARE IN THE WORLD AND TIMES OF THE A$$ CLOWNS. :violent :violent :violent WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I SAY IT, TACKETT WILL SAY IT. :yippee: THE REST OF YOU BLOOD BROTHERS, NEED TO GIVE THE MIDDLE FINGER AND SAY IT. :headbang: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. TOOTH, FANG AND CLAW.WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. SPEAK LOUD, AND SPEAK OFTEN.WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. :headbang: :yippee:

I lived next to hog farms and cattle operations; I could get used to anything if I had to, but I would not like to have to do that on vacation. Perhaps if it thins out the tourist crowd for a bit, sane people will be drawn into state decisionmaking.
At the least they could have spelled carcasses correctly! Welcome to Alabama!!
SPELLING WORDS , ARE GONNA BE THE LEST OF THEM FOLKS , EMPLOYED BY THE STATE OF BAMA PROBLEMS, COME THIS SUMMER. GOD HELP THEM, :violent :puke: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. RIGHT NOW EACH OF US PIER FISHERMEN, BLOOD BROTHERS, NEED TO BE THINKING HOW YOU ARE GONNA GET YOUR FISH .FIRST COLD ON ICE, SECOUND . CLEANING THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE, :wall: :violent . NOT THE PIER. BECAUSE IF ALL OF US THINK LIKE THAT , ITS GONNA HELP THE HELL OUT OF BLANE, AKA DAWG, AND THE REST OF THE PIER STAFF. IT SUCKS, BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS. :wall: :violent :moon: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. SPRINGER , TRYING TO MAKE THE BEST OF A DAMN , MESSED UP SITUATION.WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. :headbang:
carrc ass's, is that the folks making the decisions on the fishing cleaning? ;D
In the past when I caught an early king or red I went to the station and cleaned it right away. I felt it was easier to keep the filet on ice in a ziplock than a whole fish sticking out of a small cooler.
I kept the carcass in a big ole bag under my pier cart just in case I got checked by the man and then tossed the remains on the way out. I don't know if that works for anyone else.

I just had a call from VG and he said he was interviewed today by Fox10 News about the fish carcass disposal debacle.
The interview should be on Fox10 this evening and tonight. He also said his wife did an interview on another station, 5 or 15, I forget.
Watch for the reports.

Everybody sing it with me!
Great big gobs of greasy grimey grouper guts, mutilated mackeral meat, add in some summer heat.
Great big gobs of green blow flies and maggot pies, and I ain't got no spoon! :puke:

No, not yet.
Our Fox10 broadcast tonight was about the wild dogs shredding our van.
However, while at my home, I discussed with the newcaster about the fish carcass disposal debacle, and I will be providing him information on it over the course of the next few days, and we will set up a time to meet with them if their producer approves the story.
Stay tuned.
Let's get this on the local news and get it opened up! Let's get this mess solved!
Sorry VG, I misunderstood your message. Hope they catch that dog, hate for it to get hold of a person or animal.

Hit quote on the wrong post D'UH did you guys get the cats back? You don't reckon it might have been Coyotes? Over here at 32 @181 they come up pretty close at night some times.

It was my company van, so it will be a few days yet before the insurance "kicks in" from the corporate lag time.
Definitely not coyotes.
The owners of the pit bull mastiffs reported their escaped dogs to police shortly after the attack on our van occured. So we're quite positive, along with some other details I will post soon upon obtaining 100% factual certanties from dna testing.
Our orange/black tortoise shell cat is still missing. The Siamese is still in the tree--he has meowed so much, his voice is nearly gone now.
Both our vet and fire department say to wait until he comes down on his own. We'll see. Being purebred, he's not a "normal" cat behavior-wise.
I bet bird shot will work ;D
What's the latest on fish cleaning? Still putting carcasses in trash cans?

Tuck, the last time I was on the pier, there were temporary looking paper signs posted by the State Park that say to put fish remains in the garbage cans. The catch 22 is that the law says it is illegal to put remains in cans on state property, and the park doesn’t make the laws.
I am cleaning fish at home until there is a clear and documented resolution to this political BS.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of the GSPFF.

I will put it this way. I grew up fishing the 3 mile fishing bridge, and in turn ended up getting my first job there at the age of 16. I loved it.. all of it.. except for the days I had to empty the trash cans on the bridge. I have NEVER smelled anything worse. I would pull the bag out, to find maggots crawling on the bottoms.. Needless to say that didn't last long! :puke:
We are getting ready to propose some REALLY nice fish grinders to the assistant commissioner.
I am looking at a set up which will work well if mounted in a safety hatch (so hands are not caught in it).
Just the SMALL one basically Liquifies catfish, redfish, red snapper and other tough heads in a matter of seconds--turns them into instant mush without the need for our hands getting near it.
With these industrial grinders installed, we have the potential to eliminate problems that salt water environments normally cause lower grade commercial grinders. Additionally, the grinder liquifies the remains and can deposit them back into their place of origin without any chance of fish parts making it back to shore in sight of beach going tourists.
If we can agree on a reasonable price, and the commissioner gives his stamp of approval, then the problem is solved.
He told me face to face that he was willing to spend the money for a top grade industrial grinder if it will solve this problem. We are almost there folks!
