From deprevation to extortion?
I see on Facebook that there is a rumor that the cost of fishing the new pier will increase greatly. I know it wasn't the State's fault that the hurricane came along, but it has been too long since then for it to have been repaired, Now it would really be a kick in the fork for them to double the fees, as speculated.
That might be the last nail in the coffin for me. I'll be 79 years old when it opens this year and I've had to face the fact that I'm no longer getting old, I'm there. I'm not as tough as Harley Rogers was, and don't think I'll have the stamina to hang in there.
Also, I'm having to face the same problems as fisherpeople from out of the area have to deal with: Affordable places to stay, the high cost of everything, storing the fish you catch and, for me, what to do with the two cats that rule my life. Never gave these things serious consideration when I lived twenty minutes away from the pier, and I heartily apologize for not having more consideration for them.
I am REALLY, REALLY going to miss my pier friends.
I don't know if I'll make it down the fall, and if I do, it will probably be to sell the truckload of pier tackle that I have accumulated. I'll let y'all know when I have the sale, as well as what I have.....there will be many, many bargains.
More to come.
