Could use some help!

Hey guys! I'm new to this forum and I'm heading down to Gulf Shores next week (8-8-15 thru 8-15-15). This will be my first trip to Alabama but hopefully not my last. I'll be staying in the 1100 block of West Beach Blvd. I've got some information from reading other posts here and found that there are quite a few friendly folks here. I have just one question to ask of everyone. I'll be bringing my cast net in hopes to get some fresh bait (mullet and shrimp?). Anyone have some idea of where I would be able to get a small bucketful without making a hundred casts? Any help would be greatly appreciated and I would be willing to share what I catch.

Your best bet would at the Little Lagoon Pass (a bit west of where you are staying)
or any other place you can access the Lagoon side.
Likely there will be more bait on that side than the gulf side right now which has a LOT of seaweed near the shore right now.

Thanks Pier#r. I was looking at that on Google Maps earlier. Is there parking there without being in someone's driveway and access other than through backyards? It looks like there's construction going on at the bridge and an area to park on the northeast side of the bridge. Google Maps can be deceiving. I once went to, what I thought would be a great fishing spot based on what I saw on Google Maps, and found the only way to access this section of water was by scaling a 600 foot cliff side. So, needless to say, I don't trust Google Maps!

well...about 20 years ago, we came down for our first visit too - and have been coming back every year. What started as a family vacation spot, quickly became our #1 fishing destination. We ALWAYS brought a herd of kids - and kids go thru a bunch of bait in a hurry.
One spot I found to catch mud minnows - and shrimp on Windmill Rd. Turn Rt at the Oyster House off of 59, or turn on West 6th Street of of the beach hwy. There is easy acces to a back water creek and I have saved many a trip to Frith's with just a few casts.

Thanks Basser! I used to take a group of Cub Scouts fishing and before that my two step daughters and their girlfriends. I know what you mean about the bait situation with kids!
I see that you're a South Carolinian. One of my favorite vacation spots is Edisto Island. Ever been there? More laid back and less tourism attractions there. Don't care for Hilton Head and Myrtle anymore. Not after what they've become in the past 20 years.

Yes, PGH, we have been to all of the SC beaches from Hilton Head to N. Myrtle. Our fav is Folly Beach ( great pier, so-so fishing) But there is no fishing anywhere on the east coast that compares to the gulf - and in particular Gulf Shores. We can be on Folly in 4 hrs - but will gladly drive twice that for a day in paradise.

KDavis - the "priceless" benefit of Windmill Rd is that it cuts out 20' minutes of traffic in the summer months! We also use West Lagoon ave. to by-pass most of the Beach Hwy.

A castnet at Perdido Pass usually works for me
