Arlight so today i went down to Fort Morgan with 2 9/0 senators trying to catch some sharks. I went on to - TEXAS SHARK FISHING
and it showed me everything rig wise and line wise. I used bonita and mullet and it never got touched. Probly just a bad day. I went off mobile street, idk if where I'm at is good or not. Does anybody know a really good spot for catching big sharks if you don't mind sharing?
Are you casting bait out or using some method of getting it well out past the first bar. Occasionally, larger sharks will venture inside the bar, but from what I have seen, heard, and read, you are much more likely to encounter larger sharks in the blue water outside the bar. There are plenty of smaller sharks inside the bar, but larger ones are less frequent. Also, I would say your chances are much better at night if you are shorebound and casting baits. No expert, but have seen plenty caught and been a part of a few catches myself.
I much prefer the point at Ft. Morgan on the bay side, it get deep very fast there..
Anywhere you go it's a crap shoot, I've sharked for days many times and nothing, then BAM!
Other times it has been just the opposite, a steady bite.
I'd have to give nights, mornings, evenings, full moons and major tidal flow periods the nod for best times.
Combinations of these are prime.
Put one in the first trough and the other outside the bar, deep as possible.
Need braid on the 9/0 to do deep drops, a good 400 yards out.
Fresh caught bait if you can get it, Blues, Ladyfish, Spanish, Jacks, rays and small sharks to name some good baits.
Google Earth is your friend, as well as marine charts, look for structure.
Points, passes, drop offs, channels, rock piles, wrecks and etc.
If I can I prefer to shark in Florida, better access, regulations and just more sharky it seems.
I maintain a yearly Fla license just for sharking.
