Shame on al.com for stooping to such low sensationalism at the expense of of one of the few remaining relatively 'safe' public venues open for folks to enjoy being over the water who don't own a boat or have other access. Boooo!

Typical nonsense, agenda driven ignorance promoting more of the same. Yet, it wouldn't even be possible to force a retraction because hundreds of people were allowed (if 200 would've shown up) as long as they maintained the social distancing practices that are now required. The agenda in this case is an indiscriminate closure that creates more problems than it solves- and closure of the pier doesn't solve a problem if the fishermen "gathered" on the pier are keeping a safe distance from one another because the risk of spreading the virus outdoors, in sunlight, at distance from your neighbor is pretty small- unless you happen to be a long distance spitter with poor aim. I haven't seen any spitting for distance contests on the pier though, so I'm guessing its a moot point.

They slipped that into the article about people gathering on Robinson Island after the beach closure. They had photos taken from the air and, if truth be told, those participating were largely in boats which were anchored a lot further than six feet away from each other and those on the island itself were well spaced out, except for those who would probably be close to other under any circumstances, such as family groups or boy/girlfriend. Granted, they might be better off at home, but it didn't look like the epicenter of a plague like a church service or rock concert. I've seen worse in the local shopping center parking lots.

Another example of the press blowing things all out of proportion and selecting the facts to sensationalize news. Let us all run in circles, shouting nonsense and hitting each other with inflated pig bladders.

The people on the pier are considerate of each other, well spaced and have a nice breeze to blow away any little snotlets that they might inadvertently produce. I think I'll go fishing tomorrow, and I'm squarely in the threatened group---over 65 (well over), pre-diabetic, hypertense, and with other ailments it's not proper to discuss in public. I feel a lot more comfortable there than I do in Publix. Lots more likely to catch a good mess of fish, too.
